Better with a book: An animation for Penguin

Apart from swapping grey skies and driving rain for blue skies and sunshine, getting stuck into a good book is one of the best things about a holiday - in fact, no trip is complete without one. This animation, combining poetry, performance, live action and illustration, hinges on the power of visual imagery in our favourite reads. It was commissioned by Penguin Books to launch Penguin Flipper - their ingenious summer reading recommendation tool.

What we say:

Creating an animation around live action presented us with a brand new set of challenges. Our animator, Phoebe, produced the storyboard for the poem, before attending the day of filming to help the actors interact with the visuals that would, in the end, be all around them. Once the poem had been captured on film, Phoebe got to work, making the words come to life. It's safe to say that after weeks of animation, she will be able to recite the poem by heart, forever.
