Dementia can reveal itself in many ways. The symptoms may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language, but these changes are often so small to start with that they go undetected. Other times, the person with dementia might downplay the signs, or perhaps is so busy caring for someone else that their own difficulties go unnoticed.
Keen to map the various ways in which people with dementia are diagnosed, treated and supported, the Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust invited us to come and meet their experts. Scriberia ran a workshop to devise a number of realistic case studies, covering a wide range of patient circumstances and experiences, and these were then illustrated in the form of comic strips. Intended for use at the point of diagnosis, we hope these visual stories can be a reassuring and valuable tool at a worrying time.
