My niece, Casey Wilson, is a member of the East Lothian Pipes and Drums Trust and when she asked if we could sponsor her pipe band’s trip to China to play in an international folk festival we couldn’t really refuse. Well, maybe we could, but she’s family. We only had one caveat however. We would create a bespoke Scriberia logo for the China trip and they would wear it emblazoned on a t-shirt at all times or we would take our money elsewhere (the West Lothian Pipes and Drums Trust are only a phonecall away after all...) Fortunately, they agreed.
The band were invited to play at the International Folk Song Festival in Nanning. They joined an elite group of folk musicians and dancers from around the world and with Casey’s incredible drum stick twirling antics holding everything together (we’re a wee bit biased) the band went down an absolute storm wherever they played. The Chinese people went tartan crazy as the East Lothian Pipes and Drums Trust threatened to overtake whisky as China’s favourite Scottish import.
After completing their 1000th rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ the band headed home, exhausted but exhilarated and culturally enriched.
Congratulations to everyone involved. And next time the band are looking for a sponsor we have a great idea for a Scriberia tattoo we’re dying to try out.
