If you're at 2017 Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, you may have already noticed that the place is positively festooned with scribing and illustration by the Scriberia team.
Not only is the subtle brushwork of ace illustrator and Scriberian, Rupert Smissen, to be found on virtually every banner and brochure in town, but super scribes, Matt and Somang, are also hard at work, capturing the big ideas as they emerge at Cannes Lions School.
Rupert was a key part of the Scriberia team that took Cannes' sister festival, Eurobest, by storm last year in Rome; his beautiful portraits and lifelike reportage drawings providing the perfect compliment to the typography and economical imagery for which we're best known.
The Cannes design team loved what they saw at Eurobest and commissioned over 100 illustrations from Rupert. From portraits of judges and speakers, through to scenes capturing the buzz of debates and seminars, and views of the town itself; it's been a marathon effort for Rupert, who will be in town this week. On a well-earned break from drawing, he's looking forward to taking in a few talks and seeing the fruits of his labours in situ.
Meanwhile, at the Cannes Lions School, Matt and Somang are in residence all week. For almost quarter of a century, Cannes Lions has been at the forefront of training in the creative industries. In that time, Cannes Lions School has become an integral part of the festival's annual programme. It's where creatives are inspired to be better and bolder than ever before.
This year, our team will be capturing key insights and overarching themes on a huge wall, as well as taking deeper dives into several of the fascinating sessions on offer. Speakers and tutors on this year's bill include Sir Ian McKellen, Ryan Seacrest, Sir John Hegarty and Mario Testino. At the end of the week, Academy Dean and former global Creative Director of Saatchi and Saatchi, Bob Isherwood, will 'walk the wall'; using Scriberia's summary to run through the highlights and wrap up proceedings. Be sure to go and check out our work in progress.
And finally, our creative directors, Dan and Chris, will be soaking up the wealth of wisdom on offer this week, as well as participating in a panel discussion on visual language on Wednesday. So, if you're in town and fancy catching up with them, drop them an email, or get in touch via social media where we'll be posting all of our festival highlights.
